This post is about dressing up during the holiday season. Most people need a mixture of comfort, style and class. Something dressy enough to show that you made an effort, something loose enough to fit in all the food you are going to eat and something comfy to relax in when all the partying is done. For me, that perfect outfit is a midi skirt, layered jumpers (sweaters for the americans), a blazer and a pair of comfy shoes. Yes I am obsessed with plaid, blazers and midi skirts
This look was shot in Amsterdam, at Vondelpark - a serene, beautiful, green and luscious park with squirrels, birds, lakes and rivers. Thanksgiving reminds me so much of nature and I only thought it apt to shoot with the elements of nature
Let's talk outfit details!
The beautiful rust/orange and geometric black of this pleated midi skirt makes it one of my best zara finds. It can be hard to style due to its unique colour but it always hits the mark. Look at that sunlight streaking through the pleats. It reminds me of autumn, pumpkins and thanksgiving
I paired the skirt with neutral colours; nudes, blues and blacks including this nude jumper and plaid blazer. Blazers make every outfit smart from causal in an instant. Layering is great because when it gets too warm or you are sweating from overindulgence, you can take off the blazer and/or jumper giving you a relaxed look instantly!
For a little bit of pazazzz, I used a belt to cinch the blazer at the waist. I am a little obsessed with this style trend - it never fails. I also went a little crazy using a navy belt using navy and black together but it was the only colour i had and fashion rules are meant to be broken (shhhhh). For that extra detail, knot your belt as I did, instead of using all the belt loops appropriately.
Finally I wore my suede ankle boots to finish the look. In colder conditions, knee or thigh high boots will work just as well or even better. Layering with some thermal tights underneath the skirt means you can take this look from autumn through winter to the summer again.
I hope I have given you some inspiration to try out something new during the holidays - Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year. Click on the links below to shop my style or use the widgets to shop similar items.
